“Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state.”

What is Propaganda?
The role of propaganda has played huge part in Cuba’s history and in this project, I wanted to explore how graphic design was played in the political and social issues from the 20th century. Due to its unique style and strong, expressive language, Cuban posters made during this time showed a powerful persuasion that promoted the values of the revolution and the state ideology.
Through my research I visited a local nonprofit museum dedicated to propaganda from around the world, to my surprise they lacked some branding & exhibition design that is crucial to feeling like an educational space. In this project I did a quick rebrand of the museum and a poster with a new permanent exhibition focusing on “Cuban Propaganda.” Below is my creative process with sketches, iterations, and type exploration.
